Why Join the R₃ Lab?
Undergraduate research assistants play an important role in the work of the R₃ Lab. By joining our team, students gain hands-on experience in psychological research while contributing to projects focused on understanding racism-related stress, mental health, and resilience among Black youth and families.
Beyond research experience, students have opportunities to develop professional skills, receive mentorship, build meaningful connections, and explore future educational and career pathways.
What Do Undergraduate Research Assistants Do?
Research assistants contribute to a variety of projects and activities that support the mission of the R₃ Lab.
Responsibilities vary by semester and project needs but may include:
Data Collection & Management
Assist with participant recruitment, data collection, organization, and management.
Scientific Writing
Gain experience communicating research findings through manuscripts, reports, and other written products.
Literature Reviews
Learn how to locate, evaluate, and summarize scientific literature to support ongoing research projects.
Research Dissemination
Contribute to conference presentations, posters, newsletters, and other scholarly products.
Community Engagement
Support projects and initiatives that connect research with the broader community.
Graduate School Preparation
Receive mentorship and guidance related to graduate school applications, research careers, and professional development.
Mentorship
Faculty Mentorship
Receive individualized guidance and support from Dr. Bernard throughout your research experience. Mentorship may include discussions related to research involvement, academic development, and future educational and career aspirations.
Graduate Student Mentorship
Work alongside graduate student mentors who help lead the lab's research projects and provide insight into the research process, graduate school, and academic careers.
